On Friday, November 27, the lawn at Wrightsville Beach Park becomes the town's holiday stage for four days straight. The tree goes up and is lit that evening. The next morning the same grounds fill with craft vendors and food stands. By Saturday evening the crowd moves to the water's edge to watch lit boats on the channels. On Monday the park is a farmers' market again, as it is most Mondays.
Two different organizations put on that weekend. The Town of Wrightsville Beach lists the tree lighting and the Monday market on its own calendar. The North Carolina Holiday Flotilla is run by volunteers through a 501(c)(4). Its schedule covers Friday night's kickoff party, all of Saturday, and Sunday morning's awards. The Town's November 2026 calendar lists the tree lighting and every Monday market. It shows nothing on Saturday, November 28, even though that's the busiest day of the weekend. If you plan from one calendar, you'll miss half the weekend.
Two calendars for one stretch of lawn
Here is the whole weekend in one place, using each organizer's own published times.

The tree lighting and Monday market times come from the Town's November 2026 calendar. The flotilla times come from the NC Holiday Flotilla's schedule of events. The flotilla's 2026 sponsorship booklet lists the dates as November 27–29, 2026, and calls this the event's 43rd year.
Town offices are closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. That matters if you were planning to call with a question on Friday afternoon. The Town's Christmas Season Kickoff page is linked from the calendar entry, so check it ahead of time instead.
Friday starts with two events at 5:30
The weekend begins with an overlap. The Town's Christmas Kickoff & Tree Lighting Ceremony runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wrightsville Beach Park. The flotilla's captains' meeting starts at the same time, 5:30. If someone in your household is crewing or decorating a boat, they'll be at the meeting while the tree is lit.
Then the flotilla's Kickoff Party starts at 7 p.m. at Bluewater Grill, half an hour before the tree lighting window closes. It has live music from Spare Change, snacks and entertainment, and a cash bar. You buy tickets ahead through the organizer's Eventbrite link. The organizer's page links to ticket sales but doesn't print a price, so check the listing before you count on getting in at the door.
For most families, that makes Friday evening a choice between two plans:
- Stay at the park. Go to the tree lighting from 5:30 and stay through the Town's full program.
- Head to Bluewater. Catch the start of the tree lighting, then go to Bluewater for the 7 p.m. party, with tickets bought in advance.
Both plans set up Saturday. The tree lighting gets you familiar with the park before Day in the Park fills it. The party puts you with the boat captains and sponsors the night before the parade.
Saturday has two halves and a gap in the middle
Saturday runs on the flotilla's schedule, and it splits into a daytime event and an evening event.
Day in the Park runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wrightsville Beach Park. The organizer lists local arts and craft vendors, food vendors, kids' activities, and official Flotilla merchandise sold at the Flotilla Tent. The 2026 sponsorship booklet also lists an antique car show as part of the weekend. The Wilmington and Beaches visitor bureau listing says spectator admission is free. It names Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation, at 1 Bob Sawyer Drive, as the contact.
The vendors close at 4 p.m. The sponsor viewing tent opens at 5, the boat parade starts at 6, and fireworks follow the parade. That leaves two hours between leaving the park and the first boat going by. People who live on the island can go home, have dinner and walk back. People driving in from Wilmington or from up U.S. 17 have to decide whether to keep their parking spot through the gap or leave and try to come back.
That's why the parking question matters most on Saturday. A 2018 Port City Daily guide to flotilla parking suggested parking at the Wrightsville Beach Park public lot for the daytime festival and staying through the parade. That advice is several years old. For 2026 rules, use the Town's parking page and the flotilla's own site.
Where the boats run, and where to watch from land
The sponsor viewing tent is the only viewing area named on the 2026 schedule. Everyone else watches from public land or waterfront restaurants. The places below come from past years' coverage. They've been used year after year, but none of them is a 2026 announcement.
In 2018, Port City Daily described the route like this: boats circled Harbor Island and Motts Channel, headed toward the Causeway Drive bridge, and finished at the south end of the island near the Coast Guard station. The same report said people could watch from the bridge or from public spots along the channel. A 2023 visitor bureau guide described the boats running the Intracoastal Waterway and Banks Channel, with fireworks over the water afterward.
That 2023 guide names these places to watch from:
- South Harbor Island's two mini-parks, on the Harbor Island side of the route
- The sandy South End facing the Intracoastal Waterway, at the south end where the 2018 route finished
- South Beach Grill
- Dockside Restaurant
- Fish House Grill
- The Bridge Tender
- Bluewater Waterfront Grill, the same restaurant that hosts Friday's kickoff party
Based on that route, the spots split into two groups. The Harbor Island mini-parks and the bridge see the boats in the early part of the parade. The South End sees them toward the finish. If you have small children who need to be in bed soon after the fireworks, pick your spot partly by how quickly you can get to your car from it. The 2026 schedule doesn't publish an official start point or a fireworks launch site, so watch the organizer's site for a route map closer to the date. The restaurants are businesses with their own Thanksgiving weekend hours and seating policies, so call ahead if you want a waterside table at 6 p.m. on the busiest night of their season.
Sunday morning and Monday's market
Sunday is quiet in comparison. The awards ceremony is at 10 a.m. and is presented by REDIX in memory of Gordon D. Reddick III, known as "Dee." This is when the decorated boats from Saturday night get their results. If a neighbor or friend entered a boat, it's the morning to go cheer them on.
On Monday the park goes back to its usual schedule. The Wrightsville Beach Farmers' Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wrightsville Beach Park every Monday in November, including November 30. The Town's farmers' market page has vendor details. It's the same park that held the tree lighting on Friday and the vendor tents on Saturday, back to its regular Monday use.
A planning checklist for Thanksgiving week
The weekend is split between two organizers, so here's a short list of what to check:
- For Friday's tree lighting, check the Town's Christmas Season Kickoff page before Thanksgiving, since Town offices are closed November 26 and 27.
- For Friday night at Bluewater Grill, buy kickoff party tickets through the flotilla's site ahead of time.
- For all of Saturday, use the flotilla's schedule, because the Town calendar leaves Saturday blank.
- For parking any day, check the Town's parking page the week of the event, not older news coverage.
- For the captains' meeting and Sunday's awards venues, plus any route or launch details, watch the flotilla organizer's site as the weekend gets close.
If out-of-town family is staying with you Thanksgiving week and you're working out where everyone will stand Saturday at 6 p.m., Ronel Austin knows the island's waterfront well, from Harbor Island to the South End. Reach out with questions about Wrightsville Beach anytime. Let's Connect.
